The year is winding down and it's that time of year that i think about where i am and where i want to be. there have been surprises, opportunities, confusions, elations, connections, losses, newfound loves, and memories .. in the end, all i can do and all i should do, is move forward.

i wish the best for everyone's 2011... full of new wonders and old charms...

a few things happening with me in terms of art..

the above image was created for a book project coming out by Beautiful/Decay. i was excited to be offered this opportunity because i have been following this magazine since before i decided to make art into a career

 in january...

01/13: BlueCanvas magazine will host a night of art during the downtown L.A. artwalk where several artists, including myself, will exhibit some of our works. their last event was lots of fun with live art, music, and lots of people and energy and i'm sure it will be just as fun this time. please come!

i'm looking forward to the new year and all the new memories, events, art that will be created as well as all the new faces and people that i will meet, connect, learn, and grow from

kaleidoscope portal to...................

summer's winding down to the end and i'm looking forward to fall. i think i'm most productive in the fall when the air is crisp and leaves crunch and the grey sky sheds gently

i was invited to participate in a little group show at the Canteen Gallery in December so i will be posting up new work soon

color, shape, repeat

just a couple studies with patterns + colors

these are gouache on my favorite paper, Rives BFK. the paper's so soft like cloth and absorbs the gouache like butter on toast

a walk through the forest

these are mini-booklets of a snippet of my portfolio. there are 2 designs for the covers and they were cut from linoleum block and letter-pressed onto colored cardstock paper and they smell good like fresh letter-pressed ink. they're bound as one signature and stitched together with silver string that adds a little sparkle.

the end.

and the beginning...

this is the production lab that is my room floor. the first time i made the books, it took a while to figure out how it will all come together with the layouts and binding, but the 2nd time around, they were much easier and faster to produce. i think i'll be making a lot more books in the future

when spores grow larger than life...

beginnings of a mushroom city invasion

i had to research mushrooms for a project which made me go down to ground level and smell the earth and really look at the world at our feet. i take for granted the beauty that lives on a micro level that i surpass every day and have to remind myself to stop. and look. really look and observe. and enjoy

i love how mushrooms spread rapidly, appear mysteriously, are quite ephemeral, can be medicinal, and are delicious.

Wanderlust

If dreams are a collection of stories created by the subconscious, then my dreams are manifesting into my conscious without my knowing...

i'm too much of a dreamer sometimes..
