a little update..

Time Machine
Acrylic & Gouache on Rives BFK

This piece will be in the upcoming show at Gallery Nucleus starting this saturday. The show is a tribute to the Beatles so all images will be inspired in some way by the band. The first thing that usually pops into my mind when i think of the Beatles is a yellow submarine. I've also always loved the song Across the Universe. Those were my inspirations for this piece along with psychedelic colors from the 60s and 70s and tripping out, literally, into space...

My favorite Beatles song though is Yesterday. I always sang it on our karoake machine back in elementary days and I had the Boys II Men version on repeat for the longest time. I'm drawn to its melancholy bittersweet melody

Florence, Italy

this will be a cover of a Poketo wallet coming soon. it's part of a series called "Favorite Cities" and is a collaboration with The Working Proof who i love working with. i do love florence as well and painting this piece really made me reminisce one of the best times of my life when i was abroad there one summer of 2004... such a romantic city with all its charms and rich history and incredible art. i really want to go back... the restaurants, the pubs, the discotecas, but mostly all the people that i met while i was there; i feel so fortunate that i got the chance to experience something so wonderful. i'll always love florence and all the memories it has given me

there are a few other projects in the works that i will post once they're done. one of the projects is a piece for a Beatles Tribute show at Gallery Nucleus coming up. i will post as soon as i finish..

White Light
Acrylic on Canvas
12" x 12"

The actual painting for this piece is more subtle and faded. Some of the detailing disappeared when i scanned it and adjusted it in photoshop.

I've been thinking about memories lately. memories fading in and out, blurred and altered. no matter how much you try to forget something, there will always be a remnant or a ghostly imprint still lingering and never totally lost. but maybe that's a good thing because it builds character and lessons learned, as long as we don't fall into dwelling too much on past memories...

Transformation
Archival Print on Epson Fine Art Paper
 13" x 16" framed

The above 2 pieces are for a show coming up next friday May 4 at Hibbleton Gallery in Fullerton.

I've also got a few other things coming up that I'm excited about. I'll have a piece in a Beatles Tribute show at Gallery Nucleus in July. Also, a Video Game show at Giant Robot in June. I have no idea what to paint yet but... I'll have something by then I hope.

a little update..

this piece is now available at The Working Proof. Part of the purchase will go to the Pablove Foundation where they work with providing research and aid to childhood cancer. i felt this pairing fit with the piece because children have a great vivacity for the world around them and to them, they see infinite possibilities and no boundaries. in that sense, i would love to see a child develop more of that curiosity for life and contribute a brightness to his or her loved ones...

Beneath The Trees

this image will be a new print that will be available at The Working Proof sometime in the coming months. Anna from The Working Proof has been wonderful to work with and the online store itself is full of beautiful prints where part of the proceeds go to different charities of the artists' choice.

a little contemplative note...

it's strange how things work sometimes.. in terms of timing, challenges, opportunities and people that come our way. i think things happen for a reason; we create those reasons to fit into our lives in some meaningful way. regardless, time keeps moving on with or without me and i just gotta make the best of what i have now.. despite what i fear may or may not happen in the future and regardless of choices made in the past. i really try to keep things as simple as possible, but oftentimes things gets complicated. i guess that's a test of how capable i am in getting through those times and how i decide to go about untangling those complications and getting back to simplicity.

this year has had a great start and i feel genuinely happy right now. i hope the same for everyone else

something that's been buzzing around is december 2012. the world won't end this year, but it makes me wonder, if it really were to, could i say i am satisfied and content with my life? and what can i do now til then to live to the fullest and best.. it's something that's been on my mind and it makes me work harder and want to create more and be present and enjoy my time with people that make me happy.

on that note, i am so thankful for people i've met because of creating art. they've been so encouraging and inspiring...

Oh it's been a while since i posted on this blog.. here's goes an update~

The past few days I've been working on the piece above, which is still a work in progress, but it will be finished by tomorrow and will be up at the Blue Canvas event this thursday for the Downtown L.A. Artwalk. Blue Canvas has also kindly featured me as one of the artists for their 11th issue which will be launched at this event. There are some fine artists on the list showing at this event so check it out if you're going to join the art party thursday

In other news, I have a print of one of my older pieces now available for purchase at Nucleus Gallery:

I've loved Gallery Nucleus since its beginning as it hosts lovely events, exhibits beautiful art, and has great books, magazines, prints and toys.

Okay, back to painting furiously now. I'll post finished work soon

Happy 2012!
